“It’s the mooooost wonderful time of the yeaaaar…”
It doesn’t feel like a Christmas countdown until we arrive at The Sutton Place Hotel with an armful of inspiration to decorate our tree for their annual “Home for the Holidays” Christmas Tree Pageant.
Every year many talented designers and stagers in the city come together with one goal – create a mini wonderland of uniquely adorned trees to delight the community and raise funds for an amazing cause – PALS, a Vancouver-based school for autistic children.
This was our 10th year participating (where does the time go?!) and it’s not always easy, but we like to challenge ourselves to devise a new theme each year. (See here and here for previous year’s trees.)
2016 has been a challenging year for our neighbours in the USA. Many of us are apprehensive about the new leadership and their supporters since the election. We wanted to make a positive statement with the tree: create an affirmation of love, joy, hope and peace.
Sara and Cindy hand-made the banners and we are thrilled with the end result. We weren’t the only ones; people in the lobby were immediately drawn to our tree once we added the final touches.
Here’s some behind-the-scenes shots of the tree trimming and the fantastic end result!
You must come down and see all the incredible trees in person – they are truly the best decorated trees in the city! A stroll through the lobby to view the trees and vote for your favourite one costs only $5, with all proceeds going to PALS.
